Winter and snow have arrived in Hungary – PHOTO GALLERY, VIDEOS

According to the report of the Hungarian Meteorological Service, a precipitation zone passed over the country on Friday, which brought the first snow of this winter. The arrival and departure of precipitation zones will characterise the entire weekend.

Coming from the southwest, an extensive precipitation zone passed over the country, bringing rain and snow in the area of ​​Sopron, in the western and northern parts of Transdanubia, in the Bakony, and in some regions of the North Hungarian Mountains, writes Hvg.

The cloud layer passed over Hungary on Friday, but there may be further snowfall on the western border of Hungary on Saturday. Rainfall stopped in the morning in both the southern and western regions, but another precipitation zone arrives in the afternoon, gradually moving to the east in the evening. On the weekend, daytime temperatures will be between 1 and 10 degrees Celsius during the day, but a temperature of minus 2 or 3 degrees may occur in some regions during the night.

In most parts of the country, the snow is only expected to reach a few centimetres, but in the Alpokalja region, in the Kőszeg and Sopron Mountains, it could exceed 10 centimetres,

adds Index. Időkép reported that a 10-centimetre layer of snow was measured at the Kendig peak near Kőszeg on Friday.

Road safety

As every year, Hungarian Public Roads has been operating in winter mode since 10 November. They carry out road operations 24 hours a day, every day of the week in 19 county directorates, at 93 maintenance centres and under the supervision of the headquarters in Budapest. According to Hello Magyar,

snow removal and anti-slip measures are carried out by 915 heavy vehicles, 160 loaders, and 158 snow blowers, thus providing uninterrupted traffic on the nearly 32,000 km of national roads.

All road users are asked to adjust their speed and driving style according to the current road and weather conditions.
